Shepparton’s creative network is being summonsed tonight for what promises to be another successful meeting of The Gathering.

The arts, music and entertainment networking group has met regularly since its inception last year.

The Gathering includes live music acts as well as presentations and discussions about planned and potential creative events around Shepparton.

Tonights showcase artists will be Brea Dorsett and the Murks.

Special guests scheduled to speak include Shepparton Arts Museum curator Elise Routledge, musician Adam Toms, Mitchelton Winery’s Sarah Knight and Dookie Arts project manager Serana Hunt.

Ms Hunt, who is a professional photographer, is working with other Dookie artists to make use of a Regional Arts Victoria grant the town was recently awarded.

She said The Gathering would be a perfect forum to facilitiate discussions about how best to spend the $350000 grant, which the state government set up to transform small town communities through art.

“Its an opportunity for creative-minded people to get together and network and stimulate new ideas. Otherwise, these creative people are dispersed into the community and often dont have any idea where to go.”

Ms Hunt hopes the program may link up with Gathering initiatives.

“Weve allocated a substantial amount to technical equipment and staging thats all portable. It will include projection units as well, so we could project artworks onto silos or whatever around town. Were also interested in setting up whole tech kit in the town hall, with screen projections and lighting. It opens up a lot of potential for the hall to be used.”

The Gathering will be held tonight from 5.30-8pm at Friars Cafe in Shepparton. Anyone interested in becoming part of arts, music or entertainment projects is welcome to attend.
